Cloud Quality AssuranceZero-Install Auditing

Browser-based BIM checking: validating models without Revit installed.

Some model validation is moving out of heavy desktop CAD workstations and into cloud browsers. Reviewers can now run certain checks on parameters, clearances and standards from a web tab. Here is how browser checkers operate, where they help, and where they stop.

Executive Summary · Browser Validation

The Concept: Browser-based checking evaluates models that sit on a cloud platform (Autodesk Docs, Dalux, Speckle) or are uploaded to a web checker, without requiring a local Revit installation on the reviewer’s machine.

Platforms covered: (1) Autodesk Validation Tool (AVT) for standards checks on Revit models in Autodesk Docs; (2) Solibri WebChecker (beta) for uploaded IFC models; (3) Dalux for rule sets run by design teams; (4) Speckle Automate for custom code on model versions.

The Inherent Limit: Browser checkers can flag an issue, but they cannot fix native Revit geometry. Authors still must resolve errors in the authoring tool. Pairing cloud dashboards with desktop prevention (Karo.ModelGuard) closes this loop by blocking dirty data before publish.

Why model validation is moving into web browsers

Auditing a model has traditionally meant opening it in Autodesk Revit or a desktop checker such as Solibri on a dedicated workstation. That creates friction:

  • Software licensing costs: Equipping reviewers with Revit costs about $3,000 per user per year (third-party listings, as of November 2026), and Solibri plans run from $99 to $2,772 per license per year on Solibri’s pricing page.
  • Hardware barriers: Decision-makers frequently travel with lightweight laptops or MacBooks that cannot run desktop Revit natively.
  • Version incompatibilities: Revit cannot open a model saved in a newer version, so a reviewer needs the same or a newer Revit than the author.

Browser-based validation decouples the audit from authoring hardware: the check runs on the vendor’s servers and the reviewer works in a browser tab.

Leading browser-based BIM validation platforms

Autodesk Validation Tool (AVT)Autodesk Cloud Service

Autodesk Construction Cloud / BIM 360 Docs

Analyzes Revit models hosted in Autodesk Docs against best practices, project standards or delivery requirements using cloud computing. Results download as Excel reports that Power BI can read. Autodesk says it does not change the source files.

Best For: Teams that already host Revit models in Autodesk Docs and want standards checks without opening Revit.
Limitations: Works on models hosted in Autodesk Docs. Autodesk describes it as pay-per-result, using tokens or cloud credits from an existing contract (as of November 2026).
Solibri WebChecker (beta)Rules-Based Web Checker

Browser upload of IFC models

Brings Solibri's rules-based checking engine to the browser: upload an IFC model, run a quality check and export the findings as PDF or BCF without installing the Solibri desktop application.

Best For: Reviewers who receive IFC models and need rule-based checks without a desktop install.
Limitations: Beta. Available in the Solibri Advanced and Premium plans; see Solibri for current pricing. The vendor describes IFC uploads.
DaluxConstruction Platform

Web and mobile

Model validation for BIM coordinators: they set rule sets, defined per discipline and object group, for clash, clearance and property checks, and design teams run them on their own models before submitting. Dalux lists its BIM Viewer as free.

Best For: BIM coordinators who manage a project's model rules and want design teams to self-check before submission.
Limitations: Checks models after they are uploaded; fixing happens in the authoring tool. Rules are set up per project.
Speckle AutomateCustom-Code Automation

Speckle platform + functions

Runs custom code (functions, documented for Python and C#) on a Speckle model whenever a new version is available. Speckle's free plan includes configurable data quality and compliance checks.

Best For: Teams with developers who want custom automated checks on model versions.
Limitations: Custom checks must be written as code, and models must be sent to Speckle first.

Why cloud dashboards require in-session prevention at the desktop

Browser-based dashboards provide unprecedented visibility into project health. For example, a report can show that one project has 1,200 unresolved warnings and 400 exploded CAD line styles.

However, visibility is not prevention. A browser report only demonstrates that bad modeling habits successfully bypassed quality control and entered the central cloud repository. Once an unpinned link is displaced or a DWG is exploded, fixing it requires opening the heavy desktop model and manually sorting through dozens of damaged views.

One workable setup is two tiers: browser-based checkers (AVT, Dalux or Solibri WebChecker) for project oversight, while deploying Karo.ModelGuard on desktop authoring seats to intercept drafting violations at the moment they occur.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I check Revit models in a web browser without having Revit installed?

For some checks, yes. Autodesk Validation Tool analyzes Revit models hosted in Autodesk Docs in the cloud, Dalux lets BIM coordinators set rules that design teams run on uploaded models, Solibri WebChecker (beta) checks uploaded IFC models in the browser, and Speckle Automate runs custom code on models sent to Speckle. What each tool can check depends on its rules and on the file format it accepts.

How does the Autodesk Validation Tool (AVT) work?

Autodesk Validation Tool is a cloud service for Revit models hosted in Autodesk Docs (Autodesk Construction Cloud or BIM 360). It analyzes them against best practices, project standards or delivery requirements, and the results can be downloaded as Excel reports that Power BI can read. Autodesk says it does not change the source files. Autodesk describes it as pay-per-result, using tokens or cloud credits from an existing Autodesk contract, so confirm current terms with Autodesk (as of November 2026).

Can browser-based checkers fix model errors automatically?

No. The tools above analyze a cloud copy or an uploaded file and report findings: AVT leaves the source files unchanged, and Solibri WebChecker exports findings as PDF or BCF. A modeler still has to fix the native Revit model.

What happened to Verifi3D?

Reports say Solibri acquired Verifi3D's developer Xinaps and rebranded the product as Solibri CheckPoint. Solibri's website now lists CheckPoint, Office, Anywhere and Site as legacy products that are no longer available, and sells Starter, Essential, Advanced, Premium and Security+ plans instead (as of November 2026).
